Simbu (Silambarasan Thesingu Rajendra Prasad) is an Indian actor, director, and playback singer who works in the Tamil film industry.
He began acting at a young age and has appeared as a child actor in several films directed by his father. He has also worked as a playback singer for various composers, singing over 90 songs.
He sings mostly in his own films and has worked with his friend and fellow composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. He also wrote the lyrics for several songs in his films.
Family & Parents
Simbu Rajendar is the son of T. Rajendar, an actor and director, and Usha Rajendar, a producer. He was born in 1983 in Thogarapalli, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. He has a younger brother Kuralarasan, and a sister Ilakiya.
He received his education in Chennai at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, St. John’s International Residential School, and Santhome Higher Secondary School.
Silambarasan appeared in many of his father’s films as a child until 2002 when he played his first main role as a hero in his father’s Kadhal Azhivathillai.
Bio & career
Silambarasan began acting in his father’s films in 1995, and his first lead role was in Kadhal Azhivathillai in 2002. In 2003, he released his second film, Dum, which was loosely based on Jagannadh’s 2002 Kannada film Appu.
In 2004, he had three releases: Kovil, Kuththu, and Manmadhan. He appeared in Thotti Jaya, Saravana, Vallavan, and Kaalai in 2005. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, his 2010 film, became a Tamil cult classic.
Silambarasan’s next project was Vaalu, which was released in 2015 after a three-year of a long break due to issues. He later appeared in Idhu Namma Aalu with Nayanthara, Andrea Jeremiah, and Soori.
Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, his next film, marked his second collaboration with Gautham Menon and A. R. Rahman. In 2017, he signed on to star in Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan, an English-language film that was critically and commercially unsuccessful.
In 2018, he appeared as part of an ensemble cast in Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. He appeared in Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven in 2019.
In 2021, he released Maanaadu, a political thriller directed by Venkat Prabhu that was a box office success and received critical acclaim for its screenplay and performances.

Pathu Thala, The film is a remake of Silambarasan’s 2017 Kannada neo-noir action thriller Mufti, which starred Silambarasan, Gautham Karthik, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. It is set to be released on March 30, 2023.
